Beech Grove I
Gustav Klimt
A beech wood by the Attersee, painted by Klimt in his favourite square format. Straight trunks divide the picture vertically while the fallen leaves are dotted in like pointillism, so the whole forest reads as a pattern. Famous for his golden figures, Klimt painted landscapes like this every summer.
