Thistle from the Sands
Alphonse Mucha
Thistle from the Sands (1902), the companion to Heather from Coastal Cliffs. A woman in a white lace Breton cap faces left, holding a bunch of blue-green thistles, a fringed shawl embroidered in orange, red and gold thrown over her dark dress; a round ornament in orange and gold sits behind her head and a band of green circles runs along the foot. The richly patterned shawl and white cap are the landmarks; the pale ground is best filled in last.
