The blonde of Byzantine Heads (1897), a pair of decorative panels. Inside a round medallion a woman faces left in profile, crowned with a large blue-and-gold jewelled Byzantine headdress with pendants, her red-gold hair spilling down; outside the circle, pale scrolling ornament is drawn in white on cream paper. The face and jewels are clear landmarks, while the near-white scrollwork must be matched by following the flow of its lines.
