The Bear in the Wood
Warwick Goble
A bear appears among the trees with a figure standing before it. The tales in the Pentamerone are far coarser and more brutal than Grimm, and Goble’s watercolour wraps that material in gentle colour. The greens of the foliage separate into several distinct steps, and those small differences are what sort the pieces.
