The best known of all Bauer’s pictures. Princess Tuvstarr, having lost her golden necklace, gazes into a black tarn; in the story she never leaves that spot again. Reflection and figure run into each other top and bottom, and working out which half is the mirror is both the pleasure and the difficulty here.
