Tahitian Women on the Beach
Paul Gauguin
Two women sit on the sand of a Tahitian beach, painted in 1891, the year Gauguin first arrived on the island. The woman on the left wears a red pareo patterned with white flowers, the one on the right a pink dress of the kind introduced by missionaries, and she is plaiting strips of leaf in her hands. Yellow sand, a green band and the dark sea lie in horizontal strips, and in the puzzle these three bands show which way is up.
