Dancers, Pink and Green
Edgar Degas
Dancers in green tutus wait in the wings, adjusting shoulder straps and touching up their hair. Degas preferred such moments backstage to the performance itself, and here the upright flat on the right cuts across the picture like a glimpse caught in passing. The green, pink and orange scenery is laid in with rough strokes, so the dancers' pale shoulders and arms are the best landmarks in the puzzle.
