A lithograph published in 1868 by Currier & Ives, whose inexpensive prints hung in countless nineteenth-century American homes. A two-horse sleigh approaches a white farmhouse deep in snow, while at left a man carries a load of wood past a red barn and cattle, a small dog at his heels. The bare branches of the great tree spread across the sky; their dark lines are the best guide in the puzzle.
