A nineteenth-century American chromolithograph of a winter wood, every branch white with hoarfrost. Under a pink evening sky two hunters and their dog pause on a snowy bank, a third figure walks up the path beyond, and an open stream runs across the foreground. The frosted twigs make a fine, busy pattern, so start with the thick tree trunks and the edge of the stream.
