Medium
Oil on canvas

The church at Stoke-by-Nayland, in Constable's native Suffolk, set on its hill in 1836. He painted these few miles of countryside all his life and said this landscape "made me a painter". Flecks of white laid on with a knife and heavy clouds are an English sky as it is.
