The public garden opposite the Yellow House in Arles, painted in 1888. Van Gogh imagined the medieval poet Petrarch strolling here and called it "the poet's garden", painting a series to hang in the room he was preparing for Gauguin. Round shrubs, yellow lawn and blue sky divide into broad areas.
