A small child in white lies on the floor, looking from the dog to a hedgehog and back. The question in the title is the dog’s rather than the child’s: the subject is that moment of hesitation before an unfamiliar animal. The pale floor covers a lot of ground, so start with the outlines of the child and the dog.
