Two foxhounds and a small terrier together in a kennel. Three animals of very different sizes are overlapped in one frame, and that difference in scale is itself the composition. Straw and plank walls make the background while the dogs’ brown and white patches sit in front, so the layers are clear and the pieces fall into place.
