Full Cry

Cecil Aldin

Painted
c. 1900
Collection
Yale Center for British Art

A pack of hounds and riders streaming across open country. "Full cry" is an English hunting term for the moment the hounds have the scent and are all giving tongue at once. Open field takes up most of the picture, but the red hunting coats are dotted through it and serve as markers.
