Puck, Christmas 1896
Charles Jay Taylor
The cover of the satirical weekly Puck for 9 December 1896. Santa Claus lounges laughing in a huge green wing chair with a beer stein in his hand, a curly-haired child holds up a copy of Puck's own Christmas number, and a doll, a drum and wrapped presents spill from the sack on the floor. The broad green chair is easiest to assemble by following its folds and the row of round studs along its base.
