The New York Herald: Xmas Number
Louis Rhead
A poster for the Christmas number of the New York Herald, published on Sunday 13 December 1896. Santa Claus in a long red coat stands holding up a copy of the paper, harnessed reindeer crowd in at the left, and the panels below promise five coloured sections, 36 art pages and Christmas stories, pictures, music and poems. English-born Louis Rhead was one of the leading figures of the American poster craze of the 1890s.
