The Lagoon Nebula
Hubble Space Telescope
A vast star-forming cloud in Sagittarius, released in 2018 to mark the twenty-eighth anniversary of Hubble's launch. The young giant star Herschel 36 at the centre sculpts the surrounding gas with fierce ultraviolet light and stellar winds into whorls and ridges. The field of view is about four light-years across.
