Saturn photographed by the Cassini spacecraft around its equinox in 2009. With the Sun shining exactly edge-on to the rings they appear dark and thin, and their shadow falls on the planet as no more than a fine line. The image is a mosaic of 129 frames, and this view of Saturn occurs only once every fifteen years.
