Gottfried Mind lived in Bern and painted almost nothing but cats, which earned him the nickname "the Raphael of Cats". He spoke little and is said to have worked all his life with a cat on his lap, which may be why the way his cats stretch is so exactly right. The watercolour leaves the paper showing through, so the joins between pieces stay soft.
