Henriëtte Ronner-Knip
Henriëtte Ronner-Knip was the best-known painter of cats in nineteenth-century Europe. Born in the Netherlands and working in Belgium, she kept a glass-fronted cat room in her studio and drew from it all day. Velvet, wood and fur each catch the light differently, so two pieces of the same brown still do not feel alike.
