Fairies gather around a fire in a tangle of scarlet and hot pink. The colour Fitzgerald used here was unusual even for his day, and stories linking it to opium and hallucination followed the pictures for a long time. The tones are so saturated and so finely broken up that colour alone will narrow down where a piece goes.
