A valkyrie of Norse myth keeping watch through the night on a rock. Hughes belonged to the last generation of the Pre-Raphaelites and carried their detail and symbolism forward intact. Blue robe, grey rock and red hair divide into three broad areas, which sorts the pieces neatly.
