An illustration from A Year with the Fairies, an American children’s book of 1914 that gave each of the twelve months a fairy; this is April. A fairy wears a mushroom cap like a hat, surrounded by butterflies. The pastel range is easy on the eye, and the butterfly markings serve as landmarks.
