American Flamingo
John James Audubon
The most famous of the 435 plates in Audubon's "The Birds of America". To keep the bird life-size the tall flamingo bends its neck to fit the page, with smaller flamingos behind and details of bill and foot. Based on birds observed in the Florida Keys, it was engraved in London and coloured by hand.
