The Antennae Galaxies
Hubble Space Telescope
Two spiral galaxies about forty-five million light-years away in Corvus have been colliding for hundreds of millions of years. Their gas clouds are being compressed and billions of stars are forming at once: pink marks hydrogen clouds giving birth to stars, blue the young clusters. Our own galaxy will meet Andromeda like this in four billion years.
