Voyager 2
Neptune photographed by Voyager 2 in August 1989, the only time humanity has seen the planet close up. Methane in the atmosphere absorbs red light and gives it a deep blue colour, and the Earth-sized "Great Dark Spot" and white clouds are visible near the centre. After taking this picture Voyager flew on, and is still travelling out of the solar system.
