Tiger and Magpie (Minhwa)

A folk painting of a magpie on a pine branch and a wide-eyed tiger below. The tiger was believed to ward off evil and the magpie to bring good news, so pictures like this were pasted on gates at the New Year. The tiger's expression, more bumbling than fearsome, is the humour typical of Korean minhwa.
