The title, "the sound is among the trees," comes from Ouyang Xiu's Chinese ode on the sounds of autumn: a scholar hears the night wind and asks his servant boy what it is. An Jung-sik makes the sound visible with rough, bending brushstrokes for the wind-tossed trees. He was among the last masters of the traditional Joseon manner and trained the first generation of modern Korean painters.
