Yellow-Red-Blue
Wassily Kandinsky
A canvas more than two metres wide, painted in 1925 while Kandinsky taught at the Bauhaus, in which the three colours of the title share out the picture. On the left stand a yellow rectangle and fine straight lines, on the right a deep blue circle and a wavering black line, so that a geometric half faces a flowing one. His widow Nina Kandinsky gave it to the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 1976.
