Several Circles
Wassily Kandinsky
An abstract of large and small circles floating on a blue-black ground, painted in early 1926 while Kandinsky was teaching at the Bauhaus in Dessau. A black disc ringed with blue and a pale halo sits near the centre, and wherever the translucent coloured circles overlap they make new colours. The circles go together quickly; the dark ground is the hard part, best filled by following its brushwork and faint clouds of lighter tone.
