The Ten Largest, No. 3, Youth
Hilma af Klint
Youth is the third of The Ten Largest, a series Hilma af Klint painted in some forty days in autumn 1907 on canvases more than three metres tall. Spirals, petal-like ovals and thin looping lines bloom across an orange ground, with a pale disc divided into coloured segments near the top. The orange field is broad and even, so it is easier to build the shapes first and fill in the ground between them afterwards.
