Complete View of Mount Geumgang

Jeong Seon

Painted
1734
Collection
Leeum Museum of Art

A National Treasure of 1734 in which Jeong Seon gathers the twelve thousand peaks of Mount Geumgang into one bird's-eye view. The jagged granite peaks on the right are drawn with sharp vertical strokes, the earthen hills on the left with soft dots, and the two halves curve together like yin and yang. It is considered the summit of "true-view" landscape, real scenery recomposed by the painter's eye.
