Ferry Landing

Kim Hong-do

Painted
c. 1780
Collection
National Museum of Korea

Two ferries loaded with passengers, bundles and even an ox cross a river. Gentlemen in horsehair hats, pedlars with packs and the boatmen at their oars share the same deck, so the bustle of a Joseon ferry landing comes through intact. The water is only a few strokes, keeping the eye on the people.
