A square design for the lid of a vanilla wafer tin from the biscuit maker Lefèvre-Utile. A blonde woman with red poppies and ears of wheat in her hair smiles inside a round frame on a blue ground, white lettering circles her on a black band, and the LU monogram fills the four red corners. Blue, black and red form concentric rings, so it is natural to build from the centre outwards, and the curving letters tell you which way each piece turns.
