The only night scene among fourteen views of the Boulevard Montmartre that Pissarro painted from a Paris hotel window across seasons and hours. Gaslamps and shop windows smear across the wet road, and carriages and passers-by are reduced to a few touches. A rare Impressionist night in the city, it was never exhibited in his lifetime.
