Painted around 1597 for a chapel in Toledo: the Roman soldier Martin cuts his cloak with his sword to share it with a naked beggar. Elongated figures, a white horse and a stormy sky are El Greco's hallmarks, and the city of Toledo appears small beneath the horse's feet.
