Self-Portrait
Vincent van Gogh
One of more than thirty self-portraits van Gogh painted in Paris, working from a mirror because he could not afford models. He had just absorbed Seurat's pointillism and built face and background from short dots and dashes. Complementary pairs, green with red and blue with orange, collide dot by dot and seem to vibrate from a distance.
