Distant View of Snow on the Sumida River in Edo
Keisai Eisen
The snow-covered Sumida River seen from a distance, by Eisen in the 1840s. Three bands of white snow, indigo river and grey sky cross the frame, dotted with small boats. Simple as it is, the tab shapes matter.
