El pintor escocés Joseph Noel Paton ilustra un pasaje del Infierno de Dante. Los dos amantes flotan juntos por el infierno para siempre, y al situar la escena bajo una luz de luna azul Paton puso la ternura por delante del castigo. Un formato en arco dominado por un solo azul verdoso lo convierte en un cuadro callado, y nada fácil.
