A scene from The Remarkable Rocket, in which the king orders the celebration fireworks. Wilde’s story is about a firework convinced of its own importance that finally goes off with nobody watching, so the splendour of the illustration has a sting in it. Each figure’s costume is a different colour, which makes sorting straightforward.
