The Wartenberg sisters, who performed at the Cirque Fernando in Montmartre, painted in 1879. The girls were fourteen and seventeen, caught taking a bow with oranges thrown by the audience in their arms. Yellow costumes and the orange floor of the ring form warm fields of colour.
