The Grand Canal, Venice
Photochrom print
A gondola glides along the Grand Canal in the 1890s. A photochrom is a black-and-white photograph coloured layer by layer through lithographic stones, and before colour photography it was the first medium to show people the famous places of the world in colour. The pastel palace fronts and green water are as they were then.
