From the same grainstack series, this canvas shows an autumn evening at sunset. The shaded side of the stack is blue and violet while the sunlit edge burns orange and red. Monet worked on several canvases at once, switching as the light changed, and his stepdaughter Blanche wheeled them out in a barrow.
