Composition VII
Wassily Kandinsky
The largest and most complex of Kandinsky's abstractions, painted in Munich on the eve of the First World War. After more than thirty studies he finished it in three and a half days, and images of the Flood, the Last Judgement and the Resurrection are dissolved in its whirl of colour and line. He compared the picture to a symphony.
