It's Touch and Go to Laugh or No
Sophie Gengembre Anderson
Painted in 1857: two children sitting in the grass, looking at each other and trying not to laugh. The title is the English phrase for a thing hanging in the balance, and the picture stops at exactly that moment. Green field fills the whole background, so it is quicker to start with the children’s clothes.
