Hans Holbein the Younger
Doble retrato a tamaño natural de Jean de Dinteville, embajador de Francia ante Enrique VIII (izquierda), y de su amigo Georges de Selve, obispo de Lavaur. Los estantes reúnen un globo celeste, relojes de sol, un globo terráqueo, un laúd con una cuerda rota y un libro de himnos, y la extraña forma alargada que cruza el suelo se convierte en una calavera si se mira de lado. Arriba a la izquierda, tras la cortina verde, asoma un pequeño crucifijo.
