Wool and silk, two color complementary weft, weft-float faced 1:11 satin weave with supplementary patterning wefts bound in 1:11 warp chevron twill interlacings

A wool and silk textile designed in 1871 by the British designer Christopher Dresser: geometric flowers repeat in a grid on a red ground. Trained as a botanist, he reduced flowers to geometry rather than copying them, and was a pioneer in introducing Japanese art to the West. The regular pattern is solved grid by grid.
