Conmemora el paso de Napoleón por el Gran San Bernardo hacia Italia en 1800. En realidad iba en mula, pero pidió que se le mostrara «sereno sobre un caballo fogoso», y David grabó BONAPARTE en las rocas junto a los nombres de Aníbal y Carlomagno. Se pintaron cinco versiones; esta pertenece al Belvedere de Viena.
