Pintado hacia 1873, mientras Cézanne vivía en Auvers-sur-Oise y aprendía de su vecino Pissarro. Tejados y campos encajan como un remiendo y la pincelada es todavía suave, cercana al impresionismo. Van Gogh pintaría el mismo pueblo diecisiete años más tarde, y allí está enterrado.
