Rousseaus letztes großes Bild: Eine Frau auf einem roten Sofa mitten im Dschungel blickt auf Löwen, einen Elefanten und einen Schlangenbeschwörer. Rousseau verließ Paris nie und baute seine Dschungel aus dem Botanischen Garten und Bilderbüchern; das Sofa, erklärte er, sei im Traum der Frau einfach in den Dschungel getragen worden.
